Day 31 - [not so] Daily Art

Day 31:
[not so] Daily Art

Description:
Sometimes, life changes. For me, it's been for the better. Our new little boy has been such a wonderful addition in our lives.

I'm working full time, so when I come home, I like to spend as much time as I can bonding with Ari. Therefore, finding time to spend on the computer isn't a priority like it once was. So, I've decided rather than making this a daily blog, I'll post when I can. Hope my fan[s] don't mind!

Day 30 - Wat Dis Aboot?

Day 30:
What Dis Aboot?

Description:
I've just too busy being a new puppy mommy to do anything art related right now, however, I want to try to stick with the updates.

So...[in my best Jerry Seinfeld voice] what's the deal with all the cat photos with horrible broken English surfacing on Facebook? I don't get it. Any idea? I've obviously missed something...

Day 29 - Introducing...

Day 29:
Introducing...

Description:
We finally decided on a name. ARI. Here's why.
Ari is a Hebrew name, which means lion. Shi-Tzu (which he's part & part Yorkie) in Chinese means 'lion dog'. He really is a little lion cub.

I liked the name Chewy, for obvious reasons, but Ari is such a sweet name for such a sweet little boy. Plus, we don't want to encourage his chewing, which he's doing. A lot. He is a puppy, and that's what puppies do. We're training him to stop biting things he shouldn't, and replacing that behaviour with chewing things that are ok, like his carrot in the picture.

Day 28 - Foodie Friday...a Day Late

Day 28:
Foodie Friday...a Day Late

Day 27 - Need more puppy?

Day 27:
Need more puppy?

Description:
It was a  long sleepless night last night. First night being crated for our new puppy. In the meantime, I'm thinking more pics, less drawings due to lack of time.

Day 26 - Shorkie Pup

Day 26:
Shorkie Pup

Description:
After losing our beloved pup, Scruffi this past Summer, weren't sure if or when we would be ready for another. With time and mourning, we decided to start looking. As allergies are a huge factor, we had to go with a non shedding breed. Fate brought us to an add for Shorkie pups.

Although a Shorkie is part Shi-Tzu, part Yorkie, he's clearly part Wookie, part Ewok. He's just over 7 weeks and we're all ready in love.

Day 21:
Zombie Boy on Vespa

Medium:
3D Animation (3Ds Max), Photoshop, After Effects

Description:
My character, Zombie Boy, on a Vespa. I'm not going to lie...that Vespa was a pain in the butt to create! Not loving the lighting. I'm working on that though. It's not easy to light a scene and make it look good.

This is part of a series of characters that I created a while ago. I created this 3D model of Cuppie.
Her hair is meant to be frosting with sprinkles, complete with a cherry hair barrette.

I'll get around to working on the rest of her friends...at some point.

Day 18 - Sick of being SICK!

Day 18:
Sick of being SICK!

Description:
I have been sick since we went into Toronto the day after my birthday - nearly a month ago. First with strep. That cleared up with a 5 day dose of antibiotics - after 3 visits to the walk in, and a 5 hour wait at the hospital; not to be seen. Right after that, I got one of my infamous coughs. I'm on the second round of a MUCH stronger antibiotic - 4 pills for 10 days. Well, at least I'll get it all out of the way and enjoy this new year, right? That's not how it works? Let's just pretend, shall we?

Day 17 - There's no i in team...or is there?

Day 17:
There's no i in team...or is there?

Description:
Still sick, believe it or not. I can't remember the last time I was this sick. So, today I thought I'd post a picture I found on the net. It's pretty clever.

Day 16 - COAX

Day 16:
COAX

Medium:
Illustrator, Silk Screened onto T-Shirts

Description:
Today's post is dedicated to the Rogers TV Coax. Who are they? Only the best football team. Well, it was their first game tonight, so I'm just assuming. I was asked to create a logo for their team. At the bottom of the design is a Wikipedia description in a small font of what coax actually is. It doubles as a distraction. While a member from the other team is reading it, we get a touch down. Well, that's the plan. Can't take credit for that idea, but it's a good one.

Day 15 - Milk & Cookies

Day 15:
Milk & Cookies

Medium:
Cardstock, Cookies!

Description:
I found some pictures of what I gave out this past Christmas to my co-workers/friends. It's suppose to look like a little milk carton. It was filled with cookies.

Also...happy birthday to my sister in law, Marissa and my Uncle Art! :)

Saturday, 14 January 2012

Day 14 - Simple Tiger

Day 14:
Simple Tiger

Medium:
Pencil, Photoshop

Description:
Back on antibiotics...again. Damn cough. Although I was coughing a lot, I was feeling ok in general. Now these stronger antibiotics are making me nauseous. Fan-freaking-tastic. Not wanting to upset my fan (heh), here's a drawing I did a while back. I thought it would be a sweet character for a children's book.

Friday, 13 January 2012

Day 13 - Foodie Friday: BBQ

Day 13:
Foodie Friday -BBQ

Description:
With snow squalls in effect tonight, I thought I'd post a picture of one of our summer BBQs. BBQing is one of my favourite things to do in the warmer weather. The side burner is great for sauteed mushrooms, or roasting marshmallows

Thursday, 12 January 2012

Day 12 - Girl & Wall

Day 12:
Girl & Wall

Medium:
Pencil, Photoshop, Photographs

Description:
I drew this a while ago, but seeing as I'm off to the London Lightning game, I didn't have time to create something new tonight. I was playing with textures and transparencies. Fun!

Wednesday, 11 January 2012

Day 11 - London Lightning Bart

Day 11:
London Lightning Bart

Medium:
Pencil, Illustrator, Photoshop, Photographs

Description:
Seeing as we're going to see the London Lightning play tomorrow, I thought I'd make a fun character sporting their shirt. Who's more fun that Bart Simpson?
If you don't know who the London Lightning are, check them out here: London Lightning Basketball
They really are an awesome team. I love going to the games, and I'm not a big sports person.

Day 10 - Gazing Mushroom

Day 10:
Gazing Mushroom

Medium:
3Ds Max, Photoshop, Roadkill, Crazy Bump, Photograph

Day 9 - Angus McCoo

Day 9:
Angus McCoo

Medium:
Pencil, Illustrator, Photoshop, Photograph

I mentioned this character I made up to a co-worker today, and thought it fitting to add him to my blog. He's Angus McCoo. The bagpipe playing cow. Yep. That's what he is.

Day 8 - The Critic

Jon Lovitz plays Jay Sherman
Day 8:
The Critic

Medium:
Pencil, Illustrator, Photoshop, Wacom Tablet

Description:
Remember this show? It was such a smart and funny animated series voiced by one funny man, Mr. Jon Lovitz. The Critic had the best lines. This one stuck with me after all these years:

"Rosebud... yes, Rosebud Frozen Peas! Full of country goodness and green pea-ness. Wait, that's terrible. I quit!"

Check it out: The Critic

Day 7 - Cryptics

Day 7:
Cryptics

Medium:
Pencil, Illustrator, Photoshop, Wacom Tablet, Photograph (background)

Description:
I love graphic novels. Half the time I buy them strictly for the artwork. These guys were taken from Cryptics. I really like the artistic style of this novel. I honestly can't even remember what the story was. I should probably read it again.

Day 6 - Foodie Friday [Brisket]

Day 6:
Foodie Friday - Brisket

Description:
Dealing with a headache all day today, so sadly, I'm starting Foodie Friday with pictures from the past.

I am a foodie. I love cooking, baking, collecting recipes, etc. Every Friday I'll post something food related. The top picture is of a pickled brisket, and the bottom is a plain roast. I made them for Passover this past year. I didn't know that I bought a pickled brisket (roast), so I cooked it the same way I cook a regular roast. After a few hours, it was still pink inside. I thought it was uncooked, but had no idea how. I finally called the butcher and realized that it was pickled and it keeps the pinkish colour. The whole house smelled like a deli. Yum!

Day 5 - Zombie Friends

Day 5:
Zombie Friends

Day 4: Tinkerbell

Medium:
Originally drawn in pencil, scanned, and redrawn using a Wacom tablet in Adobe Illustrator. Coloured in Adobe Photoshop.

I felt like drawing a character that I don't normally draw. For some reason, Tinkerbell came to mind. No idea why, but here she is!

Day 3 - The Maple Leaf

Day 3:
The Maple Leaf

Medium:
Originally drawn in pencil, scanned, and redrawn using a Wacom tablet in Adobe Illustrator. Coloured in Adobe Photoshop.

I read about The Guardian Project a while ago, but haven't heard anything since. I thought it was such a cool concept, and loved all the artwork. This is The Maple Leaf. Check out the other characters.

Day 2 - Angry Birds

Day 2:
Angry Birds

Medium:
3D Model - Maya, Photoshop

Description:
It's been a while since I've had a chance to do some 3D modeling. Seeing as I've been playing Angry Birds (way too much) while I've been sick, I thought I'd make one. Below is a visual of how I created it, but if you want more of an explanation, feel free to leave a comment.

Sunday, 1 January 2012

Day 1 - Welcome!

I created this blog so I can attempt to draw, create, or photograph something on a daily basis. I'm hoping that by making it public, I'll feel more responsible to stick with this idea.

I've been really sick over the holidays, so while I really wanted to start this blog on the first day of the new year with a new drawing, I'm going to have to begin with artwork that I've done in the past. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be trusted to draw anything with this much medication in me.

Photo taken by Bob Smith, 2011

Day 1:
Karl Pilkington Christmas Ornament

Medium:
Acrylic on plastic

Description:
I made this ornament for Bob Smith. It's really nothing much artistically. I just really enjoyed making it for someone with the same passion for Karl as me.

It was the re-tweeted by Ricky Gervais. What? Yep...THAT Ricky Gervais. I'll never get tired of telling people.
